My name is Heather, and I’m the Mom. My favorite activity is reading. Especially historical fiction. Other interests are scrapbooking and genealogy, but I haven’t spent as much time on those hobbies since we’ve been homeschooling. I truly enjoy researching and planning our homeschool studies, though!

Terry and I have been married for 16 years (wed in 1994). He faithfully drives 2 hours each weekday to and from his job as a Software Engineer. He simultaneously acts as the company’s Information Technology Supervisor. Terry participates on a weekly bowling league.  Back in the BC years (before children, you know), he was licensed as a private pilot. As soon as the budget allows, he’ll renew that license. He and his dad have been working on a home-built airplane kit.

Our son, Christian, is 13 years old. He’s a science and tech geek. For a science fair, he built and programmed his Lego Mindstorms NXT robot to navigate a maze.  Christian also enjoys reading books, especially series such as Hardy Boys, Pendragon, and Chuck Black’s Kingdom. He has been known to clear the library of books on Golden Retrievers and Venus Flytraps.  And if you’re ever yearning to hear missile, dart, jet, helicopter, Star Wars, or generic machine sound effects, Christian is your guy.

You may have noticed our Golden Retriever, ingeniously named Golden, who has grown astronomically! [Mom is thinking: Why did Christian have to choose such a huge breed?????] Golden’s favorite activity is running wildly through the yard. When that option is not available, Golden also enjoys tugging rope or chasing tennis balls.

Rebecca, 11 years of age, is nicknamed Button. She’s an art and history freak who collects–you guessed it–buttons. She can turn scraps of anything and everything into unique craft creations. Photography and architecture are other interests of our dear Rebecca. She lovingly tends her 6 American Girl dolls, and she has read nearly every book in the American Girl series. Rebecca enjoys working in the kitchen, and especially begs to crack open the eggs. She can often be heard humming Bible songs or Mozart.

And, finally, I’ll introduce Nara, our beloved feline companion. She also answers to the name “Furball,” and will curl up on any vacant lap, although Dad’s is her favorite. She enjoys hunting birds, snakes, and mice in moderate to warm weather. Her delicate paws are intolerant of snow.

Just wanted to say that your web site is very impressive. I have enjoyed visiting here and learning about circuit and button’s curriculum. They are both growing smarter every day. I believe they take an interest into very intelligent areas of learning. You are doing a fantastic job as their teacher as well as being their mother. I will figure out how to use your web site to chat with all of you more often.

Wow, Kathy! Thank you for all your kind comments:) Glad you could visit.

Welcome to my blog, Kim. Hope you and your family had an enjoyable Easter! Do you have a blog to share?

Thank you so very much for replying back. We had a wonderful quiet Easter at home just the 6 of us. Unfortunately I do not have a blog to share, I have thought about that for a couple years now, just have not found the time. I have seen so many other people do it and have it turn out so well, maybe its my turn to finally try. 🙂
Your kids are so beautiful and have grown so much in so many ways. And it looks like you are all enjoying and reaping the benefits of homeschooling, thats wonderful!! God’s Blessings to you and your family.

Heather, I’ve never clicked on your tabs until today. I love these, very nice! Such sweet pics of the kids too. I never knew Terry has that kind of drive every day, that is one huge commitment–to his job, to your family’s lifestyle, wow. And I love your wedding picture. 🙂

    • Heather says:

      Thanks for the compliments, Kristine!

We’re so grateful that Terry copes with that drive. Extremely long days! There are so few technology-based jobs in our area and it’s disappointing that Terry can’t find anything closer to the family homestead:(

Are you still commuting to the library near your former house? Not fun for you, either, I imagine.
