Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail

After breakfast, the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail was first on our agenda. We learned why this road is closed in winter and prohibits buses, trailers, and motor homes. It’s steep at times and often narrow. We pulled off the roadway several times to enjoy the scenic overlooks.

To give you a bit of perspective, our home in the middle of Michigan is at a puny elevation of 836 ft. The hotel in Gatlinburg is at 1300 ft. This overlook on Piney Mountain is at roughly 3000 ft above sea level…

In tomorrow’s post, we’ll tackle the Grotto Falls Trail, hiking to a crazy 3777 ft!
