Take Me Out to the Ball Game…

Rebecca requested a trip to a Detroit Tigers game. Dad agreed and bought reduced-price tickets on StubHub.com.

Verlander, who won the 2011 American League Cy Young Award and the 2011 Most Valuable Player of the Year Award, was the starting pitcher. Avila caught.

Skies were overcast as the game began,

but the sun emerged with enough gusto to bestow sunburns upon this girl and her mom.

We left home in rain with the threat of thunderstorms, and I was so careful to gather ponchos and umbrellas and towels that I forgot the sunscreen 😦

We were hoping for Fielder to launch a long ball. Didn’t happen today, unfortunately.

The seats Dad found for us were in the front row of the upper deck.

We stood up and wiggled during the 7th-inning stretch.

Some 30,000 fans were in attendance at Comerica Park.

Boesch hit a 2-run homer, but the Royals prevailed with 3 runs.

Despite the Tigers’ loss and the sunburns, we enjoyed the game. Although Dad had attended several games in his youth, this was the first major league game for the kids and me.

You may see more of our game day on Christian’s blogpost, where he posted his photographs.

How fun! I now feel compelled to attempt to convince Josh to go to a Tiger’s game with me this summer after these wonderful pictures and captions. Sorry about the sunburns though 😦 I went with the church group eons ago to a Tiger’s game, but I guess you didn’t go that time (Heather). I still have to give Josh grief because he brought his friend Ralph and his younger brother to the game, and they proceeded to get lost and we had to wait 15-20 minutes for some of the adults to go find them before we could leave to head home.

Thanks for the sunburn sympathy. The ouch faded after a few days, thankfully.

I don’t remember knowing about a church group going. Wonder if it was while we lived in Jenison? Anyway, I’m glad none of us became separated among all of those people!

It was truly a fun day trip. We’ve talked about going back, but I don’t think it’s in the budget for this year. Maybe next season?

Ummmm, Christian… Did you realize your hat is on your head crooked? And by that, I mean more crooked on your head than normal. Were you just feeling a little off-kilter that day?

  3. Christian says:

    Never noticed. 🙂

FUN time! Everyone should see a major league ball game at least once, don’t you think? Great seats, great photos!
