On our 17th wedding anniversary, dh escorted me to IKEA! Yes, I have an extraordinary husband!
The Canton, MI store is 2 1/2 hours from our home, but the drive was entirely worth it, in my opinion. [Of course, I wasn’t the one who was driving:] After drooling over the IKEA website for several years, it was a treat to finally visit the store. We enjoyed (he survived) hours of following (and rebelling against) showroom arrows. Oohs and aahs. Our wish list grew astronomically. Over a romantic lunch in the IKEA cafeteria, we pared down our list.
Budget and cargo space limited the list to a reasonable number of purchases. The big boxes contained a small sofa for the basement (on sale for $200) and a bookcase deep enough to hold our photo albums. We were grateful that Christian and Rebecca were spending the weekend with Aunt Nay. There wouldn’t have been room for them in the car otherwise!
Our anniversary outing included stops at Cabela’s, Trader Joe’s, and Whole Foods Market. Aren’t these places you’d like to go on your anniversary? By the time we’d finished shopping, the Pacifica was filled to the brim. I should have taken a picture then.
Nearing 9pm, we concluded our celebration with supper at Olive Garden. Yum.
We arrived home just before midnight, unloaded only the perishables, and crashed into bed. The rest could wait til morning.
